  1. “I have always referred to Dar al-Taqwa as ‘Aladdin’s cave’; you always find books that can’t simply be found anywhere else. I have spent many a hours in the shop, drooling over the offerings and compiling my wish list of books that I would like to own one day! I have recommended the shop to many friends and scholars over the years, and I hope to be able to visit the shop for many more. Apart from the premises itself, Dar al-Taqwa has understood clearly, the dire need to bring to an English-speaking audience, jewels from the Islamic scholarly tradition and over the years, we have seen a number of great books from the Islamic civilization translated, ready to be read by an inquisitive audience, wishing to learn more about our lost heritage.”

  2. "I've been saying Dar Al-Taqwa is the best bookshop in town for the last twenty-five years ~ and it still is!"

  3. Dar al-Taqwa. Not just another bookshop, and not just another Muslim bookshop. This is what a bookshop is supposed to be: a friendly place where customers are always welcomed, whoever they are; where the people behind the counter really know and care about books - and are happy to give advice about books and many other things. In other words, Dar al-Taqwa is an institution in the best sense, a vital part of the Muslim community. Let's do all we can to support it and keep it alive and well, Allah willing.

  6. For a quarter of a century Dar al-Taqwa has been a landmark in the landscape of Islamic London. It has provided an invaluable resource right in the centre of London for thousands of Muslims looking to deepen their religious knowledge and, importantly, for thousands of non-Muslims seeking to know more about Islam. Its extraordinarily extensive selection of books on all aspects of Islam in English, Arabic, and other languages have made it a one-stop shop for people looking for textual information on virtually every facet of Islamic knowledge and Samir, his wife, and the rest of his well-trained staff have provided a wonderfully warm welcome to all visitors and the helpful service needed to enable them to access the many benefits which Dar al-Taqwa has to offer.

However, the most valuable contribution made by Dar al-Taqwa to Islam in Britain, and indeed throughout the world, has almost certainly been in the field of Islamic publishing. Throughout the last twenty-five years Dar al-Taqwa has been a very significant factor in the world-wide production of Islamic literature in English, considerably expanding the scope and depth of books available to English-speaking Muslims. Over the years dozens of previously untranslated texts have been made available to English-speaking readers, both from the pens of modern scholars addressing contemporary problems and also such seminal classical texts as the great tafsirs of the Jalalayn and al-Qurtubi. My wife and I have been privileged in having been able to collaborate with Dar al-Taqwa on many of these literary projects.

I ask Allah to reward Dar al-Taqwa for the service which it has provided on so many levels for the Muslim community in London, Britain and even further afield and to give them the means and support they need to carry it on for many years to come.
